Thanks to Ty’s mom, we were able to get away for a vacation to celebrate our anniversary. We decided on the beautiful El Secreto resort in Belize. A two hour flight from DC to Miami, another 2 hour flight from Miami to Belize City, short 15 minute flight to San Pedro island, and a 25 min boat ride to our resort. It was just as beautiful as the website had described it. Our little piece of paradise.
And now some pictures:
Hanging out at the airport in Miami
During take off our oxygen masks popped out of their compartment, so we had to move and were lucky that the only available seats were in first class. Upgrade!
A little Candy Crush (I may have some warm nuts in my mouth…LOL)
Got to sit up front next to the piolt
Waiting for our boat to the resort
We were greeted at the resort with cool towels and coconut water/mint refreshments.
Our digs right on the beach complete with private pool/hot tub
Hanging out in the common area next to the open air restaurant
Shrimp curry with coconut rice…..SOOOO GOOD. I made sure we stopped by one more time right before we left. Ty would not stop taking pictures of me eating, hence the face 🙂
Pool time
Free foot massage pool side
We also went snorkeling. I got really sea sick, but it was totally worth it.
The first stop was a marine reserve area called Hol Chan. The fish swam alongside us the entire way. Saw sea turtles, barracudas, groupers, snappers, coral, and stingrays.
The second half of the tour was at a place called Shark Ray Alley. Hmm wonder why they call it that?….check out the video and you’ll know why! (there was a drop of water on the Gopro so it’s a little blurry)
The guide threw out bait and here came the sharks. Dozens and dozens of sharks. Bananas! He told us to put out gear on and get in. “Are you crazy?!” We finally got the guts to jump in and it was amazing!
The sharks are brown nurse sharks. Bottom feeders and mostly suck their food into their mouths rather than chomping down on them like Jaws, so we were safe, in theory. What an experience!
Really wish we had taken more pictures, but you get the gist. We had a wonderful time.
